Fixing a Roku TV

Short term renter reported hearing a popping noise followed by an unresponsive TV in their stay in August.   No other electronic had a problem and every outlet seemed to work.

Upon troubleshooting the TV was in fact dead.  No response using any of the manufacturers troubleshooting directions.

I decided to see if I could replace any internal part that might be broken to salvage the TV instead of figuring out how to dispose of it and the expense of having to buy a new one.

I spent time trying to figure out what the problem was and guessed it might be related to the power supply (seeing as no power seemed to be getting to the TV at all).   Opened the TV and saw what might be a blown ceramic capacitor on what I'm guessing is the power supply board.

I tried to find the part online with no initial luck.  After a while I stumbled across the part from encompass.com for $30 new. Ordered it and received it a few days later.

Replacing the board was easy.  Detached 2 cables and 4 screws, took out the old board, put in the new and reattached everything and was done.  TV works again!

Dancratic method in a nutshell

With the help of good friends, I've developed an approach to conversation over the last couple of decades.  In this blog I'm trying to forge that approach into a system that I'm calling the Dancratic method. PREMISE : Everything should be able to be questioned.  If it doesn't hold up to scrutiny it should be considered theoretical at best. i.e. You should be able to question 2+2= 5 and adhere to the rules below. Even the most volatile topics can be discussed with civility if  followed properly.   Dancratic method is a specific application of Socratic method.  Instead of a group discussion lead by a teacher or leader, these rules can facilitate 1 on 1 conversation for productive truth seeking.  There is no persuasive element to Dancratic rules.   GOAL : The goal is learning something new.  Perhaps understanding a different perspective a little more.  There is no winning, and no losing unless you break a rule- then everyone loses.   5 RULES : Be kind No name calling of an
